QUOTES OF THE DAY

Image
Today's quotes are inspired by a Nigerian icon and powerhouse. Who is also known as the mother of Nigeria. She is none other than our #wcw Madam Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti. Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti on her 70th birthday. 📷 by UNESCO via Wikipedia "All this mild talk of sewing and etiquette is simply not enough. What about literacy? Or women's political representation? And we should start by involving those who matter the most: The market women". - Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.    "Alake, for a long time you have used your penis as a mark of authority that you are our husband. Today, we shall reverse the order and use our vagina to play the role of husband" - Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.

ELESIN OBA: THE KING'S HORSEMAN - 6 THINGS I LIKED AND (6 I DIDN'T) ABOUT THE MOVIE

Image
Image @imdb CAST: Odunlade Adekola, Shaffy Bello, Olawale-Brymo Olofooro, Deyemi Okanlawon GENRE: Drama/History (1h 36m) SYNOPSIS: After the death of the king, his horseman must sacrifice himself in order to assist the king's spirit to move peacefully into the afterlife. It was common knowledge amongst the townspeople that the absence of the horseman sacrificing himself would mean chaos in the land. While the horseman was happy to go through with the ritual, some unforeseen distractions occur, causing an out-of-the-blue misfortune.  WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE MOVIE 1. The Costumes And Make-up   a. The fake beard the Elesin Oba wore didn't match the hair on his head. They should have also applied some "wrinkly" makeup to his body to show that he is old. Judging by how mature his son Olunde is, it is easy to assume that the Elesin Oba will be a much older man. b. Olunde looked too modern for a movie set in the 1940s. They should have given him a typical 9...

She was the first Nigerian woman to drive a car. She was the first female student to enroll at the co-educational Abeokuta Grammar School, the school was initially open to only male students. From 1919 to 1922, she went abroad and attended a finishing school for girls in Cheshire, England. She learned elocution (formal speaking in pronunciation, grammar, style and tone as well as the idea and practice of effective speech and its forms), music, dress-making, French and other domestic skills. Due to the racism she faced whilst in England, she made a de...
